Bapu Biography

Sattiraju Lakshmi Narayana, popularly known as Bapu was born on December 15, 1933. He is a reputed filmmaker in the Telugu Film industry. Apart from direction, he also excelled in Music, painting and arts.

 Bapu had won 3 Film fares in Best Director category for Telugu. He also directed few films in other languages, Neeti Devan Mayagugiran in Tamil and Hum Paanch, Seeta Swayamvar, Anokha Bhakt, Bezubaan, Who Saat Din, Pyari Behna, Mohobbat, Mera Dharam, Diljala and Prem Pratigya etc in Hindi. Most of his movies will focus on family issues and relationships and he will use the mythological characters in the narration.

 Bapu was born to a Niyogi family in Narsapur from West Godavari District,Andhra Pradesh,India. Being a good cartoonist, Babu has worked   for the Andhra Pratrika newspaper in 1945. Later, He completed his graduation in the year 1955.

 Bapu’s paintings will focus mainly on Hindu mythological characters. He introduced a simple style in painting. He has the stupendous art of telling the story of Epics, mainly the Ramayana, through his paintings. Bapu’s handwriting that reflects same simplicity as his art had become a new style of cursive writing in Telugu literature..

 Bapu had met Mullapudi Venkataramana while he was studying inP.S.High SchoolatMadrasin 1942. Their career as a writer, producer, illustrator and film maker started after the success of Ramana’s small story that was Published in a children’s magazine ‘Bala’ which was named after ‘Amma Maata Vinakapothe’ at his age of 14. Bapu has illustrated that story. Babu and Ramana have become very famous, there after. They had immensely contributed to the enrichment of Telugu cultural ethos by turning into film director and write.

 When ever a project from this duo (Bapu and Ramana) is set to shape up, we can surely expect a spectacular visual treat and enthralling storyline, films like ‘Sampoorna Ramayanam’, ‘Ramanjaneya Yuddam’, ‘Seetha Kalyanam’, ‘Thyagayya’, ‘Bhaktha Kannappa’, \'Radha kalyanam\', \'Manavoori Pandavulu, \'Bhogimanta\', \'Mutyala muggu\', \'Sakshi\', \'Mr. Pellam\', \'Pelli pustakam\' etc falls under this category. This duo had worked for almost of 50 films and many of them had huge success.

Star actors like Krishnam Raju, Chiranjeevi and Ravu Gopalrao are molded like a diamond under the direction of Baapu. His latest movie Sri Rama Rajyam starring BalaKrishna and Nayantara was released in November 28, 2011; the mythological wonder was specially screened at International Film Festival of India.

 He was honoured with many awards Raghupath Venkaiah Award, Nandi Awards, and Filmfare Awards south, Rashtrapati Award and many more for his contribution in Telugu film industry.
